Space Escape- 2D game proposal

Space Escape
Contents:
1)    Introduction
2)    Level 1
3)    Level 2
Introduction
The main character (the hero), is called Dave; he became a professional scientist by the age of 28, then- one day, he decided to start building a robot army to protect the human population from any alien invasions that might occur, this task was set by The Government of United Countries and Continents, unfortunately; he made an error in the code- one he wasn’t expecting to make, this error suddenly started to spark off chain reaction, that turned the Robots bad, so instead of the Robot Army (R.A) protecting the humans from Aliens, the humans had a new threat the R.A, even though Dave has an emotional attachment to the Robots he created, he knows that he has to destroy them, he also created a unit that could manage the R.A while he was gone, as well as what would have been Dave’s R.A is now under management of the a corrupt leader with a taste for “revenge”, luckily for Dave- he has a power that can stop the Robots in their tracks, THE POWER OF FIRE, he can shoot fire-balls out his hands (after an operation long ago, his hand got removed by an explosion in war; and replaced with bionic one), he then modified it so that it could shoot fire-balls out of it (One of his friends questioned  his act and he said: “Just in case mate, Just in case”).

Level 1

In this level, the character will “spawn”, there will be interactive signs (when you walk up to them, they will display text on the main screen) with instructions on how to play the game and the controls you need to use to win, Once the character has found out how to play the game, they will be instructed to start walking right, various platforms will allow the character to move further in the game and over pools of lava and over gaps that can make the character loose one of their lives, on the first level; you have one life, the way you pass the level is to destroy all the Robots in the level, also you can gain points by collecting Ice-cream and Pizza. (See below for more information).

Level 2

In the 2nd level, the character again spawns at their spawn point, then; the character again has to defeat Robots, each raising your score by 10 points. In this level there are twice as many Robots than in the previous level, making it twice as hard to complete the level, luckily for the player- they have two lives now (The one they started off with and the one they gained from completing the first level), again you have to destroy all the Robots

Level 3- The Final Battle

In this level, you have to awaken the boss by destroying 15 robots, after that; you have to DESTROY the leader of the R.A. (Robot Army), it is a massive robot that can shoot fire as well as you can, luckily; the robot has a power pack that powers it’s weapon, when it uses it’s weapon- the battery drains and the boss is stunned until the battery is recharges (it takes 5 seconds, which would be enough time to reduce its life down by 25%).

Extra information about the game

In the first level has 5 robots, the second level has 10 robots, the third has 15 robots and the Boss (BU33).
Each Robot scores you 25 points, each Ice-cream and Pizza scores you 5 points each.
Throughout the game, if you’re looking, you may notice words engraved in some of the platforms, if you note the words down, they create a sentence, and it’s an anagram.
You need to unscramble the sentence, once you un-scramble the sentence, you need to input it into a text box that will appear when you stand near the door in the mystery level.
Once you have entered the mystery sentence, you gain an extra life, and reward you with 500 points, the way you enter the hidden level is to gain 200 points.

As you progress you gain more lives (when you win a level, you gain a life. The maximum amount of lives you can obtain is three (you can gain an extra life if you complete the hidden level).

Epic Industries- Interactive Media- Owain Davies

Business Cards
In this lesson, I was set the task of creating our own business card on Photoshop.

Unique Banner- Owain Davies

Text tool - I selected the text tool and dragged the box to the size I wanted, I selected the font I wanted and also colored it red, the font I used was Rosewood Standard.

  • Gradient Overlay- I double clicked the layer my rectangle was on and selected the gradient overlay tool and put the angle of the gradient at -90 degrees.
  • Rectangle tool- I simply selected the rectangle tool and dragged the box until I liked the size of it.
  • Anchor Point tool- I used the anchor point tool to make the arks in the rectangle above, it was quite tricky but I managed to finally get it right.
  • Paint Bucket- I filled all the rectangles/ squares so they would be filled with black.
I found this task quite challenging because i trouble figuring out how to use the anchor point tool and understanding how I use it to my advantage. I am generally happy with my final product because it turned out well and it is original.

Elements of 2D Platformer Games

Initial Research

A platform game (or platformer) is a video game which involves controlling an avatar allowing it to jump between suspended platforms, over obstacles, or both to advance the game. These challenges are known as jumping puzzles or freerunning, as the levels increases, the difficultly increases, making it harder and harder to reach higher platforms or get further in the game, each level has set dangers (or hazards) that are added to a game to make it increasingly harder to get past the level you're on.
The most " unifying element" of 2D games is the the "jump" command.
Jumping in this genre could include swinging from "extendable arms", or other things that my be identifiable as something you'd usually swing to or from, two example games that include this are:  Ristar or Bionic Commando and other games may include bouncing off springboards or trampolines to progress to the next level. " These mechanics, even in the context of other genres, are commonly called platforming, a verbification of platform."
In games such as The Legend of Zelda, where jumping is done completely by the game or "automated" aren't included in the genre of Jumping, they fall just outside.
Platform games originate from as early as the 1980's, "The term itself describes games where jumping on platforms is an integral part of the gameplay and came into use after the genre had been established, no later than 1983"
5 best Platformer Games (apparently in order):

  1. LITTLE BIG PLANET (2008)
  2. UNDER WURLDE (1984)
  3. GHOSTS 'N GOBLINS (1985)
  4. ROLLING THUNDER (1986)
  5. IMPOSSIBLE MISSION (1984)

Film Noir Picture

1. I think that this photograph was taken around the 1940s because it is displayed black and white.
2. The message that the photograph could have been conveying is that the actor is lonely.
3. This image is easy to create to because there’s only the man’s chin and him holding a glass on a table (under a spot light and on a table)

1. I think this image was also created around the 1940s again because of the grey style (black and white) look.
2. The image would be easy to create because there’s only one person, I can easily re-create the expression on the man’s face, I may be able to re-create the background, I don’t know if I can re-create the clothes though.

1. I think this image was also created around the 1950s because again it is black and white.
2. It is easy to re-create because the man is holding a pen to his mouth and not a cigar, which is lucky for me because I don’t like smoking and I am not old enough to buy one anyway.

1. I think that this picture may have been taken around the 2000s because although it looks old, the clothing that the man is wearing look quite modern (in my opinion)
2. However, I think that this image may be good to re-create because there’s only one person, and I could create a filter to place in front of the camera.

1) I think this image was taken around the 1950s because of the old fashioned clock, the look of the lady in the background and the fact it is displayed in black and white.

2) Also it would be easy to create because I can be the person reflected in the clock, I could still get the time of the clock (within the nearest 5 minutes) and I could use the settings on the camera to make the image black and white.
3) I will be taking this shot at home, with the sealing lights (which are soft lights) as lighting, I will be using one of the clocks I have at home and hopefully it will be reflective enough to show my face.

Secrets
Easter Eggs
GTA 3

In the very southwestern block of Bedford Point lies a parking lot (notably featured in the Kingdom Come mission) where an Easter egg can be located; known as The Hidden Sign. To reach it, the player needs a car of small size such as Manana or Taxi. Going up the stairs leading to an overlooking platform to the north of the lot (near the entrance to an underground parking in the same area), the player must jump from the car to reach the top of a building to the west, jump down on the wall and from there drop down to an otherwise inaccessible alley behind it. At the end of the alley, on the wall, there is a posted notice that states "You weren't supposed to be able to get here you know." Near the poster is a ramp that allows the player to leave again.
Infinite wood for Minecraft: Pocket Edition
Infinite wood

It takes 3 pieces of wood to make four stairs, and when you destroy a stair block you get one piece of wood, so for every 3 pieces of wood, you can turn that into 4 pieces by turning the 3 into 4 stairs and then deleting them.

5 of my favorite/ most used apps
The following apps are all installed off Google Play Store or an app called "AIO Downloader"
  1. Spotify- This app is mainly aimed at a wide range of people, the age range could be for example (only an approximate guess)12-50+.
  2. "BassTuner"- This app plays the notes of the string selected and then the user compares the two sounds accordingly for example if the string sounds has a lower pitch than the sound played on the app, the user will adjust the string so that it sounds as close to the sound played on the app.
  3. Minecraft Pocket Edition- This app is similar to the P.C version but with simplified crafting (Pocket Edition tells you what you can make out of the materials you have, also it displays all of the items you can make in the game and what you need to make them.
  4. Skype- This is an app that you can text people, call people and video call people.
  5. GTA 3- This is another gaming app that allows you to race around "Liberty City" and complete set objectives.

Secrets

Secrets
Primary Research
A secret is an object, information, painting or anything else that may have significant value to the keeper.
An example of a secret may be of crop circles, how do they form? what do they mean? and area 51, the one place only authorized personnel can enter.... why? what do they have to hide? A body of an Alien perhaps.... a futuristic space ship? I would think so, I wish I knew so...
Various alien sightings have been reported by different people; may people don't believe a word of it and others swear by it.

Are we really alone?
There's many people want to know, but it's one of America's secrets.... so therefore it'll ether be a long time before they release the information or they won't ever release it, possibly they will when they think the human population is "ready" to receive  that kind of information.
There's been many documentaries on Aliens and many articles titled "Do Aliens Really Exist".

No one can pass these two sign posts without official permission off the American Government or the President of the United Stated of America.him/her self, the sines lead to a place famously known as "Area 51"
Generally, I don't think we're alone, the universe is WAY too big for that, I mean; come one.... millions and trillions of galaxies, solar systems and star clusters and yet humans are the only ones in this almost endless void? I don't think so, if we are the only inhabitant in the Universe, then we are one sad race.......

Below are a few images of aliens according to what humans thing they may look like (the one below is a pretty stereotypical look that aliens may have).
Here is another picture of aliens (quite strange if you ask me).
Here is one of the more scary images of what aliens may look like, suggesting a more deadly and unfriendly look to them instead of a look that seems more approachable.

Above is an image of what a alien space ship may look like, the flying saucier is more of a stereotypical shape for alien space ship, but many people who have claimed to have see them say that this is the one shape that they tend to have.
Though, people who have draw/made concept alien spaceships seem to think otherwise; as shown below.
I have also watched a video on YouTube called "Dark 5" that also gives even more information to me suggesting that aliens ARE real , Dark 5 explained some secret events that have taken place over a series of years,

Below is a screenshot of one of the aliens that may have been left behind on earth, it is called “The Mothman” and as decribed on the picture below, was 7 Feet tall, with huge wings, piercing red eyes and could fly upto 100 mph (miles per hour), the YouTube video mainly consisted of writing rather than taking, so you had to read what the video was explaining and in some cases this can be a better way to learn about it.
Below are a few screenshots I’ve taken of the YouTube video.
